Plantation Shutters - Basswood

Basswood is the most verstile hardwood shutter in our range and the most choice when it comes to configurations and colours. Basswood is a stable wood with a fine straight grain and is also known for being both lightweight and odourless. For many years it has been a favourite amongst carpenters and wood carvers alike. These qualities make basswood the perfect choice for your wooden shutters, the stable nature lends itself to being the perfect wood for special shutter shapes and the production of louvres as it holds true. This wood also accepts stains very well, giving a uniform and elegant finish. For this reason the basswood range has by far the greatest number of stain choices and paint colours for you to pick from. It also has the largest number of louvre options being the only range to offer flat and s-shaped options. Finally it is engineered in the same clever way as all the shutter ranges to prevent warping and bowing, though as this wood is naturally stable, the result is a truly high quality shutter that will last for many many years.

The Basswood shutter is highlight of our range, with the best list of options and the most versatile configuration possibilities. It also is the only shutter to offer a contemporary flat louvre and also the s-shaped louvre that boasts better closure and therefore reduces the amount of light coming through. It introduces a new concept called silent tilt rods, only available as an option in the Basswood and Cedarwood ranges, where the hidden tilt rod is built within the stiles so that there is no visible control mechanism what so ever.

Shutter Louvre Widths

The louvre size is paramount to getting the best from your shutters. There are 8 different sizes and styles of louvre available in Basswood, where most louvres are of an eliptical cross section the flat ones are obviously flat and the s-shaped are, as you might guess, with an s-shape inproving closure contact.

Our Basswood shutters provide an unrivalled hardwood shutter option in the UK market. Tilt Rod: Used to control the shutters, normally centred though can be offset to the left or right hand side. The tilt rod can also be hidden, with the new silent tilt rod option meaning there is no visible mechanism, in which case you control the shutters by moving the louvres themselves.
Configuration: Full height with or without an optional mid-rail to match your window, tier on tier, café style or bay window. Find out more about shutter styles.
Frames: Depending on the location of your shutters and where they are going to be fitted we will be able to advise you on the frame options available. All shutters are manufactured with frames that are fitted into your window, door or opening.
Colour: Both in our showroom or if you choose to arrange an appointment for one of our sales advisors to visit you at home, we have samples of all the available colours and stains for you to look at and choose.
