How To Sleep Better In The Winter

A large number of people may find that they struggle to sleep properly in the summer months due to lighter mornings and warmer weather. However, a lot of people also struggle to sleep properly in the winter months. This can be down to a number of reasons but, to make the most of your sleep, here are some tips on how you can sleep better in the winter.

Change Your Bedding

When the weather is cold outside, most people tend to choose warm pyjamas and heavier blankets and duvets as a way to keep warm during the night. However, being too hot during the night can be disruptive to your sleep patterns and cause you to sweat and snore more. Instead of thick, warm pyjamas, it’s best to use your bedding as a way to keep warm.

To sleep better in the winter choose lighter pyjamas and use layers of bedding. Layer sheets, blankets and a heavier duvet, so that you can remove layers should you become warm in the night.

Control The Light

Light plays a big role in our day-to-day lives and has an effect on how we sleep. It naturally wakes us up, so in the winter months when it is darker in the mornings and evenings even the smallest amount of light is enough to disrupt your sleep. If you want to sleep better in the winter, then you can take steps in preventing unnatural or unwanted light sources from disrupting your sleep.

Ensure that your room is dark and free from the light and glare that comes from alarm clocks and your mobile phone. Investing in a good pair of blackout curtains and window blinds will ensure that you are also blocking out any unwanted light from outside and will also help to insulate your room from cold windows.

Don’t Stop Exercising

When the weather is colder, you may be more tempted to head home and watch TV instead of going to the gym. But, your evening gym class may help you sleep better in the winter. Not only will exercise make you feel more tired, but you are more likely to fall asleep sooner and have a better quality of sleep after a workout.

You don’t need to go to the gym every night, just a small walk after your dinner will keep you moving and help you nod off quicker in the evening. You can even try some online workout videos to do in the comfort of your own home if you don’t fancy being in the cold weather.
